"Kaddish," 2001, oil on masonite, 24"x 36."
This painting was inspired by the beautiful words of
the Kaddish, the traditional Jewish prayer of mourning. Some artistic
license was employed to portray a joint funeral of my grandparents, Barbara and
Meyer Perlberg. All their biological offspring are at the funeral.
The first verse of the Kaddish frames the scene. The gate of the cemetary
has the Hebrew quote: "Torah, Prayer, and Acts of Loving Kindlness."
